Jana Janku, the Slovak executive member of IFAJ, is stepping down after 25 years on the committee. She is succeeded by Vlada Debnarova, a freelancer who joined the Slovak guild last year.
Jana Janku has been on the executive committee since 1993, when Slovakia became an independent state after splitting from the Czech Republic. She became a member of the Slovak guild of agriculture journalists in 1977.
Jana was on the team of organisers for the IFAJ congress in 1994, when Slovakia and the Czech Republic were the first two countries ever to arrange a joint congress.
Jana is now retired and is enjoying her two favourite hobbies which are skiing and golfing. She no longer has time for agriculture journalism.
The new Slovak member of the IFAJ executive committee is Vlada Debnarova, a 44 year old freelancer. Vlada started her career at the Slovak Radio in 1997. Since then she has been working as a journalist and communicator in different places, but always focusing on agriculture and the agrifood sector.
She lives with her husband in Myjava, at the west border of Slovakia and loves gardening and trips to the forest.
We welcome Vlada to the next executive meeting and send a big thank you to Jana for having contributed to IFAJ for so many years.
