Africa – It’s Time!

With just a couple of days left before many of you will arrive in South Africa, it is time to start packing! Although a cold front this time of the year is not unusual, the temperatures will likely be on average between 14 and 27 degrees Celsius. We do advise you to bring at least one casual jacket as well but you can leave the coats and scarfs at home!

The Congress will kick off on April 3rd with the opening ceremonies headed by Magda du Toit, Chairperson of the Agricultural Writers SA, and Nico van Burick, Chairperson of the congress organising committee. The opening session will be followed by presentations and panel discussions on agriculture in South Africa and protection of intellectual property.

On April 4th, the program will switch to farm tours in the Gauteng area (around Pretoria) before the entire congress will be airlifted to Cape Town for more farm tours and the closing ceremonies. All the details can be found at: www.ifaj-congress.org

There is also pre-tour to Kruger National Park and farm visits, and post-tours (after Cape Town) to Kwazulu-Natal, Namibia and Zambia.

AFRICA FORUM

IFAJ’s “Africa Forum” will be held immediately before the opening of the 2017 Congress on April 2nd. The location of the 2017 Congress, as well as IFAJ’s growing interest in Africa, are key factors that prompted the idea of holding an Africa Forum at this time.

The speakers and participants will explore the challenges facing African agriculture and how agricultural journalists can help farmers succeed. Through the presentations and roundtable discussions, the Forum will identify key elements for professional development, information transfer, guild establishment and network building across Africa and around the world.
