Interview with Richmond Frimpong, president of the Ghana Agricultural & Rural Development Journalists Association (GARDJA).
GARDJA is a new member of IFAJ and the Newsletter had the chance to talk to Richmond about becoming a member and their plans for the future.
Who are you?
I am the deputy news editor at the radio station Fox 97.9 fm, in the Kumasi- Ashanti region. In, 2016 I also was one of the IFAJ-Alltech Young Leaders in Bonn, Germany.
How many members are you in your guild?
We started with 100 members but currently we have 80 active members engaged with the association.
What are the big issues for agricultural journalism in Ghana?
Our members’ biggest problem is lack of time. Most of us are not agriculturist, although we are engage with the profession to give the sector some prominence. Agricultural reporting has not been given the needed attention in the Ghanaian media.
